Mary and Jim Powell came to Heartland Lodge after many years of teaching in New Zealand and overseas. For over twenty years, they came with their family to enjoy holidays in Twizel at all times of the year. They were drawn by safe swimming and the shady trees at Lake Ruataniwha, the proximity to the majesty of the Mount Cook National Park, excellent fly fishing, clear air, mountain views and dry climate. They are willing to share the delights of their new home with guests.
Mary comes from Invercargill, from a farming family, and grew up on a small farm outside the city. She enjoys, when not looking after guests, gardening, cooking, reading, films, crafts, walks and watching the local wildlife.
Jim came to New Zealand from Wales, deciding to settle here after meeting Mary. He is a keen fly fisher with all that entails, enjoys wood working, walking, theatre, making music and watercolour painting.
